Pravin Togadia unhappy over meetings ban

PUBLISHED:

Firebrand former international president of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad Pravin Togadia, who is currently the president of the Antarashtriya Hindu Parishad, expressed anger over Guwahati Police denying him permission to address rallies and meetings during his three-day visit to Assam. Togadia arrived in Guwahati today (July 18) and will stay in Guwahati till July 20.

Guwahati Police had earlier barred the former VHP leader from attending any public function for the next two months. The decision was taken amid concerns that “inflammatory speeches” he might make could lead to law-and-order disturbances, particularly ahead of the publication of the second and final NRC part draft on July 30.

Togadia said after arriving in Guwahati that Police asking him to abstain from speaking in public rallies and making “controversial and inflammatory speeches” was unfortunate and an autocratic decision.

The former VHP leader later met Guwahati Commissioner of Police Hiren Nath besides addressing reporters where he questioned the Centre and State Government’s commitment to making Assam Bangladeshi-free.

“The ‘Jati Bheti Mati’ government has done little to deport foreigners and protect the interests of indigenous people of Assam,” Togadia said.

He also visited the Kamakhya and Ugratara temples in Guwahati after arrivening in the State capital.
