Police have cracked the train rape and murder cases of a young college student and a woman in her late forties after arresting both accused — Bikash Das and Bipin Pandey — from different locations on Thursday and early Friday morning (July 12 and 13). While Bikash was arrested on Thursday morning, minutes after police released a sketch of the accused, his accomplice Bipin Pandey alias Pandit was arrested from Banipur railway station in Dibrugarh by a joint team of Dibrugarh police and RPF from the New Tinsukia-Bangalore Express while he was planning to escape.

The two arrested accused have made some chilling statements during interrogation and have confessed to raping and murdering the two victims. Bikash alias Bubu had on Thursday confessed to the crime during interrogation and admitted to have sexually assaulted the young college girl and the 48-year-old woman along with Bipin.
The two arrested persons made some chilling confession, and claimed they used anesthetics to drug the two victims and then raped and murdered them. Incidentally, Bipin sexually assaulted the woman even after strangulating her to death. They also took away the ornaments and other valuables from the two victims before making good their escape.

Incidentally, Bikash was also planning to commit a third rape & murder and had brought a gamosa-like cloth to strangulate his next victim, RPF Commandant of Tinsukia BS Meena had said on Thursday.

Police said both are history-sheeters and had past criminal records. The arrested duo was taken to Sivasagar in connection with the first incident of rape and murder where they are being grilled.
