Assam To Host Its First Paragliding Championship!

Guwahati: Assam’s Bodoland is all set to host the state’s first paragliding championship from November 10 – November 15, 2019. The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Tourism Department has decided on Ontaigufur Dangdhufur Chokrosila Wildlife Sanctuary in Kokrajhar as the venue of the tournament.

Paragliding was first introduced by BTC tourism department in 2013 during Bhaokungri festival. Real-life pilots from Sikkim were invited there to train local youths. This helped build new opportunities for the youth and chances of self-employment.

Director of Tourism Department, Mahan Brahma, indicated that once again around 70 pilots from over 15 countries and pilots from all across India would be a part of this event in November.

With this initiative, the BTC tourism department aims at establishing a paragliding training centre near at Dangdhufur Ontaigufur in Chokrasila wildlife sanctuary, Kokrajhar to train the local youngsters as well as from across the Northeast.

With nations like Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Switzerland, and national pilots from Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Pune, Sikkim and Manali present at the occasion, the event is expected to attract big crowds. (Tripto)
