Assam sprinter Hima Das scripted history by becoming the first sportsperson from the State to win two medals in the Asian Games. The quartet of Hima Das, MR Poovamma, Muhammed Anas and Rajiv Arokia finished the 4×400 Mixed Relay race, coming second behind Bahrain to clinch the silver.

While the Bahranian team took 3:11:89 to finish the race, the Indians took 3:15:71 to take home the silver.

Kazakhstan won the bronze with a timing of 3:19:52 minutes.

Incidentally, it has been for the first time that the mixed relay competition has been introduced in the games.

Meanwhile, celebrations broke out at Hima’s native village Kandhulimari in Dhing after she and her teammates won the silver in the 4×400 Mixed Relay race. The celebrations ended the disappointment of Hima crashing out of the women’s 200m semi-finals after she was disqualified for a false start earlier this evening.
