Hima Das storms into 400m final

Ace Indian sprinter Hima Das of Assam stormed into the finals of the women’s 400 metres in the IAAF Under-20 World Championships at Tampere in Finland, producing another sizzling display to win the first semi-finals heat clocking 52.10 seconds and lead the overall timings. Hima, seen as the favourite to win the gold in the quartermile event, had also clocked the fastest timings in the heats, registering 52.25 seconds.

Hima will become the first Indian to win a track gold in the Under-20 World Championships if she clinches the yellow metal in the finals to be played later tonight (Thursday).

Jisna Mathew, the other Indian in the fray, however, failed to make it to the finals after finishing fifth in the second semi-final heal and 13th overall with a timing of 53.86 seconds.
