Air tragedy averted, Kolkata-bound GoAir aircraft makes emergency landing at LGBI Airport

GUWAHATI, Dec 23: An imminent air disaster was averted and many precious lives saved after a Kolkata-bound GoAir aircraft made an emergency landing at the Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati minutes after taking off today.

The Guwahati-Kolkata GoAir flight G8546 had taken off from the LGBI Airport at 12:10 pm with 157 passengers. However, within minutes, the flight developed a technical glitch forcing the pilots to head the plane back to the airport and make an emergency landing.

The technical snag, reports said, was detected in the propeller wheel of the plane. Passengers were caught by panic with the sudden development; many of them were in tears while others sought divine intervention so that a mishap, that looked almost imminent, could be averted.

Residents of the locality, meanwhile, said they heard a deafening noise and saw something drop from the skies as the aircraft made a desperate attempt to land.

“It was around noon and I was busy in the kitchen. Suddenly I heard a deafening sound and it appeared as if something was falling to the ground from above. Then I saw an plane trying to make a landing. It was very scary,” a woman who lives near the airport told News Live.
