Assam: 666 extremists of four rebel groups to surrender tomorrow in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Around 666 members of  four different rebel groups of Assam will lay down their arms in Guwahati tomorrow.

According to sources, the extremists from National Liberation Front of Bengalis, Adivasi Dragon Force and two other outfits from Santhali and Rabha communities will surrender at a function at GMCH in Guwahati.

Among the 666 cadres, 300 members from National Liberation Front of Bengalis and 180 members from Adivasi Dragon Force will surrender and join the mainstream.

Reportedly, the members of the  rebel outfits today had a meeting with chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal. 

“With the initiative of Special Branch of Assam Police, many cadres of insurgent groups expressed their willingness to surrender. The surrendering process will be formally held  tomorrow in the presence of chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal,” said director general of Assam Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta.  

The surrender of large number of extremists has come after Saoraigwra faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland-Saoraigwra (NDFB-S) signed Suspension of Operations (SoO) Agreement with the government on January 16.
