Assam: 915 religious sites to get Rs. 10 Lakh financial aid

GUWAHATI: Assam government will provide Rs. 10 lakh financial aid to 915 religious sites of the state under the ‘Asom Darshan’ scheme, announced finance minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today.

Interacting with media persons at a press conference in Guwahati, Dr. Sarma said, “We will formally inaugurate the ‘Asom Darshan’ scheme on February 24 at Veterinary Field, Khanapara. Around 10 thousand people representing various spiritual centres of the state will be present there.”

“458 temples, 186 Satras, 123 Namgarhs, 47 mosques/shrines and 26 churches will receive Rs. 10 lakh for infrastructure upgradation. Government will also develop the roads on way to these religious sites to promote religious tourism,” added Dr. Sarma.

A fund of Rs. 710 crore has been sanctioned for the scheme. On the other hand, Rs. 615 crore will be spent to develop the road connectivity with the religious sites under the department of public works (roads).

‘Asom Darshan’ scheme was  included in State Budget 2019-2020 to develop religious tourism in the state.
