Assam: AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam arrested for controversial remarks on COVID19

GUWAHATI: All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA from Dhing constituency Aminul Islam has been arrested by Assam Police in Nagaon district on Tuesday morning.  Islam was arrested following a viral audio clip where he made some communal remarks on COVID19 and quarantine centres in Assam. The arrest was made after Nagaon Police had interrogated the MLA overnight.

In the audio clip, Islam alleged that quarantine centres in the state have become more dangerous than detention camps for foreigners. He also alleged that many people without any sign of disease have been kept in the quarantine camps.

Though the pictures of food and other arrangements for the COVID19 patients and the people in quarantine camps have been made public by the health department, AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam alleged that the people in quarantine were not being provided with food and other amenities.

This is not the first time that the AIUDF legislator sparked controversy with his insensible comments. Earlier, he claimed that no one from Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi had been tested Coronavirus positive. He alleged that it was a conspiracy of media.

On the other hand, Aminul Islam had to seek apology from Ahom community after he allegedly said in a public meeting that Ahoms were not the indigenous people of Assam and termed them as invaders.
