GOALPARA: Terming isolation and completing the quarantine period as the most important task, Assam Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that sometimes it takes time for the virus to be detected.

Citing a recent example Dr. Sarma said that the female colleague of the American tourist who had tested COVID19 positive in Bhutan got tested positive on the 14th day. This proves that one needs to be careful when it comes to isolation and quarantine.

“We are trying to get some test reports of people who are in quarantine. Even if the reports show negative they will have to complete 14 days of quarantine, because, it might turn positive on any of the 14 days. It is only on the 14th day we will decide whether the person will be released or not,” said the health minister.

The American tourist, who tested positive for COVID-19 in Bhutan, had come into contact with more than 400 people during his stay in Assam.
