Assam Govt. launches Asom Darshan scheme

GUWAHATI: Asom Darshan, a flagship scheme of Assam government which seeks to develop religious sites and tourism in the state has been launched today at Veterinary Playground, Guwahati in presence of Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and finance minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Under the scheme, 915 religious sites of Assam will get Rs. 10 lakh financial aid. The scheme also increases the annuity given to each religious and charitable institution of public nature by Rs. 2 lakh. It also promises one-time grant of Rs. 1 lakh for CCTV set up at the places of worship.

As a part of state government’s endeavour to develop tourism in the state, budget of Rs. 150 crore has been allocated under Asom Darshan scheme to improve infrastructure of 316 listed destinations.

“The visionary Rs. 710 crore Asom Darshan programme has 4 components- annuity grant to devalayas, improving basic infrastructure of places of natural beauty and historical significance, improving key infrastructure in religious places and improved connectivity for visitors,” Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma stated. 

On the other hand, CM Sarbananda Sonowal said, “Assam’s spiritual heritage, scenic beauty and historical sites are not only mesmerising but icons of this great land.”

Around 10 thousnad representatives from various religious sites of Assam were present in the event.

Along with CM Sonowal and minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, state BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass, ministers Keshab Mahanta, Pijush Hazarika, MLA Angoorlota Deka and several senior officials of state government attended the event.
