CAB soon, refugees to get Indian citizenship: Amit Shah

GUWAHATI, Oct 1: Union Home Minister Amit Shah today reiterated that the central government will bring the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill and get it passed to accord Indian citizenship to all Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist and Christian refugees.

The Union Home Minister, who was addressing a seminar on the National Register of Citizens at the Netaji Indoor Sstadium in Kolkata, said the ruling TMC in West Bengal was misleading people about the exercise.

“People of Bengal are being misled about NRC by the TMC. I assure all Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist and Christian refugees that they won’t have to leave the country and that they will get Indian citizenship and enjoy all rights an Indian national enjoys,” Amit Shah said, adding that all such refugee belonging to these communities will even get the right to become the Prime Minister of India.

The Union Home Minister also added that once Citizenship (Amendment) Bill is passed the exercise of updating the NRC will be extended to West Bengal saying all infiltrators will have to leave the country.
