MUMBAI: A student appearing for the SSC board exams at a centre in south Mumbai has tested positive for Covid-19. He was admitted to Kasturba Hospital in Chinchpokli on March 21, the day he appeared for the second-last paper. His father, who had also tested positive and had travelled domestically, was admitted to the hospital two days earlier, on March 19, reports Mumbai Mirror.

BMC officials have started contact-tracing students who took the exam at the centre and the supervising teachers to screen them.

According to secretary of the Maharashtra state board, the student had appeared for the history paper. He was taken to the hospital after he returned home. The board officials, however, learnt about the case on March 23 from the BMC.

A total of 353 students from nine city schools in south Mumbai were taking the exam at the centre and nine teachers were present. However, the officials will chiefly focus on 25 students sitting in the same classroom. The headmaster of the exam centre school said the administration has given the health department and ward offices the addresses of those who were sitting on benches adjacent to the affected student.
