Coronavirus: Street vendors at Guwahati’s Fancy Bazar evicted

GUWAHATI: Amid Coronavirus fear Assam Police along with Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) launched an eviction drive at Fancy Bazar in Guwahati today to prevent mass gathering in the commercial hub of the city.

The authorities in the presence of director general of police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta evicted several street vendors from Fancy Bazar area.

“We should avoid public gathering. People should follow all the directives of the government. They should become careful,” said DGP Mahanta.

He also stated that police would act tough against the traffic violators in the city.

DGP Mahanta thanked Gauhati High Court for its recent order on the Traffic Management in Guwahati.

“We have already had several meetings with the transport department. The chief secretary of Assam is also playing a very proactive role. I hope, we will be able to manage the traffic in Guwahati with the coordination of all,” Mahanta added.
