COVID19: All donations to Assam Arogya Nidhi eligible for 100 percent exemption from income tax

GUWAHATI: Amid ongoing COVID19 crisis, the Income Tax Department and Ministry of Finance of the Government of India allowed 100 percent deduction for all donations to Assam Arogya Nidhi. All donations to the state COVID19 fund are now eligible for 100 percent deduction under section 80G(1) of the Income Tax Act.

Taking to Twitter Assam health and finance minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday wrote, “We thank @IncomeTaxIndia & @FinMinIndia , Government of India for clarifying that all donations to Assam Arogya Nidhi are eligible for 100% deduction as per Sec 80G(1)”.

This was informed to National Health Mission, Assam director through a letter by Sumit Purkayastha, Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax (ACIT).

“Since the Assam Arogya Nidhi Trust will manage the fund set up by the State Government to provide medical relief to the poor, the donation made to the Assam Arogya Nidhi Trust which is in fact a fund is eligible for 100% deduction as per Sec. 80G(1),” the letter stated.
