COVID19: Assam Police will chase those who spread rumours, communal content on Social Media, says DGP

GUWAHATI: Assam Police has been acting tough against the rumour mongers and the anti-social elements posting rumours and communal content in the wake of Coronavirus outbreak in the state.

Speaking to media, Director General of Police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said, “No one will be spared for posting controversial content on Social Media. We will chase them and give stringent punishment.”

“We have noticed some content and rumours in the name of particular religion or community at this time of crisis. People should not believe in these. They should make confirmation from Police,” added DGP Mahanta.

Meanwhile, Assam Police has shared a phone number and email id to report rumours, fake news or inappropriate Social Media posts. People can report such inappropriate content by making phone calls to +91 91326 99735 or sending email to [email protected].

“For reporting fake news/rumours/inappropriate social media posts infringing law, please use mobile number +91 91326 99735 and email [email protected],” Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) of Law and Order GP Singh Tweeted.
