Mayawati breaks up with Akhilesh, BSP to go solo in UP by-polls

PUBLISHED:

The Bahujan Samaj Party has decided to contest the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly by-polls on its own. There will be no coalition with Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party for the 11 seats that will be on the fray.

It was BSP leader Mayawati who announced the party’s decision to contest alone in the polls. Though Mayawati said that the break up with Akhilesh Yadav’s SP was not permanent and the two parties might again come together in future.

“It’s not a permanent break. If we feel in future that SP Chief succeeds in his political work, we will again work together. But if he does not succeed, it will be good for us to work separately. So we have decided to fight the by-elections alone,” the BSP chief told ANI.

Reacting to Mayawati’s announcement SP chief Akhilesh Yadav said that his party will also go solo in the by-elections.

Both the parties had come together to form a coalition just before the Lok Sabha elections. The BSP contested in 38 seats winning 10, while the SP contested in 37 seats winning 5.
