New Assam Bhawan, Sahityarathi’s statue inaugurated in Kolkata

GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated newly constructed Assam Bhawan at Salt Lake, Kolkata in presence of finace minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The new building constructed with a cost of Rs. 25.18 crore by Assam Public Works Department.

On the other hand, chief minister Sonowal and finance minister Sarma also inaugurated a statue of Assamese literary doyen Lakshminath Bezbaroa on the premises of old Assam Bhawan.

“We have firm belief that the statue of Sahityarathi will create an environment to work with co-operation in the fields of literature and culture in both the states,” said CM Sonowal. 

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “We will start construction work of another Assam Bhawan at Dwarka in New Delhi. We will spend Rs. 100 crore for the project. We have decided to construct a 12-storey building with Rs. 250 crore in the place of old Assam House in Kolkata. We will construct a 7-storey Assam Bhawan at Sardar Patel Marg in New Delhi with a cost of Rs. 150 crore. The endeavours to construct Assam Bhawans in Pune and Chandigarh are also going on.”
