No proof of newspapers carrying Coronavirus, Himanta Biswa Sarma rubbishes rumours

GUWAHATI: Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma rubbished all the rumours that newspapers also spread Coronavirus. Minister Sarma clarified that there is no scientific base to establish such claims.

“Had it been so, the Government of India would have closed down all newspapers. We too do not have any advisory from the Central government regarding newspapers,” Sarma said.

Minister Sarma also stated that if one goes by the logic that some infected person had touched the newspapers, even milk pouches or tea packets are not safe as the same logic would apply in those cases as well.

Earlier, amid apprehension that newspapers can carry Coronavirus, All Guwahati Newspapers Hawkers Association decided to suspend newspapers distribution from today.
