GUWAHATI: Though many religious sites have been closed across the country due to the outbreak of Coronavirus, Pitambar Deva Goswami, satradhikar of Assam’s Aauniati Satra in Majuli has opposed such move. The spiritual leader claimed that prayers are essential to prevent the deadly disease.

Speaking to News Live, Pitambar Deva Goswami said, “Religious places should not be closed because prayers are held there. The disasters can come to its end through prayers. The aims of the prayers are to maintain peace and prevent the diseases.”

However he appreciated the initiatives of the government to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“At this point of time, we should be careful. The initiatives of the government are also very important,” Satradhikar Goswami added.
