GUWAHATI: Sharjeel Imam who is currently in Assam Police custody reportedly met All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief and Dhubri MP Maulana Badruddin Ajmal at a secret meeting in Delhi.
According to police sources, along with Ajmal, a number of MLAs and advocates were present at the meeting. The meeting reportedly discussed the issues of Muslims in Assam in the backdrop of National Register of Citizens (NRC) and Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019.
Sharjeel Imam who is accused of sedition charges held the meeting in Novemeber last year. During his interrogation, Imam told police that the main motive of the meeting was to oppose the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019.However, except Badauddin Ajmal, Sharjeel was not familiar with other people present at the meeting.
