Three proofs required for citizenship under CAA: Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI: The applicants for Indian citizenship under the amended Citizenship Act, 2019 will have to submit three proofs to be eligible.

Speaking exclusively to News Live Managing Editor Syed Zarir Hussain, Senior BJP leader and Assam Health and Finance Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said “The applicants will have to prove first that they are Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Parsis, Christians and Jains. They have to file clear evidences that they belong to select religions.”

“The applicants have to file government documents which justify that they entered India before 2014. The documents can be educational certificates, Aadhar card and identification of voter list prior to 2014,” Sarma added.

Speaking on the third proof to be submitted, Dr. Sarma said, “The applicants will have to prove that they have come from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan. For that reason, the applicants will have to submit government documents, voter list or refugee identity of the select nations.”

The senior BJP leader also stated that the documents would be verified by intelligence agencies of India.
