ULFA(I) welcome to join mainstream: Kiren Rijiju

GUWAHATI: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has said the Centre will be more than happy to welcome the ULFA-Independent leaders to mainstream.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Rijiju pointed out that when he was in the Union Home Ministry, he had appealed to Paresh Baruah and all the underground groups to lay down arms and join the mainstream.

“The historic agreement with NDFB was a big step of Narendra Modi government to bring peace in Northeast. Peace is absolutely necessary for development. Development can’t take place without peace,” Rijiju state.

Earlier, United Liberation Front of Assam(I) commander-in-chief Paresh Baruah in an exclusive interview on Tuesday told News Live chief managing editor Syed Zarir Hussain that ULFA(I) is ready to come for peace talks on the outfit’s ‘core issue of sovereignty’.
